Edmund Rice Youth Project started a year ago. Since its inception the project has trained 225 young people in Human Development, Communication, Entrepreneurship and computer. Some of these are working in shops in town; others are running their own business while still others are still looking for opportunities. The project has also seen young people going to interact with other youth in the outskirts of and within Kabwe. The importance of these interactive activities is that young people see how other youth live and experience life. Also the period these young people have been with us, they have not been at risk of being abused or engage themselves in acts that do not promote healthy growth.
The project has also maintained contact with the young people’s parents. At the recent meeting with their parents, Edmund Rice youth Project management was asked to talked about its response to the uncontrolled compound video showrooms and pubs that expose their young ones to pornographic materials and indecent behavior. During the meeting parents discussed that they were to take the responsibility of knowing where their children spend their time when they are not in school.
May God continue blessing young people on their journey to discover who they really are and May Edmund Rice continue blessing his work in Kabwe and wherever his Spirit lives.
